It will be eleven and a half years since Hermano, which was the very first edition of Ride Fish Rock, and we've enjoyed every one of them, even those frigid cold March days. Arguably, Fish Rock was the most memorable spring bike race to select, bar none (except now it's in August)...
As we have made our way through our 20th year of creating events, we've been taking stock of what we've done, what we have, and what our next play should be. Since the beginning, Bike Monkey has been able to bridge the giant gap between small and large-scale events. At some point, excursions like Fish Rock and Boggs became R&D.
For some of you, these are your favorite events of the entire year. In the case of Boggs, it's historic and memorable as the place where Bike Monkey was born. But within all of the nostalgia, and lamenting and commitment to our roots, one thing is always for sure, no matter what -- at some point, we'll leave these places, whether by choice or not.
After moving Fish Rock to August so that it was clear of things that were taking our focus, we've come to the realization that the lore of Fish Rock has begun to fade, and with it the effort of continuing to bring it to the table is a distraction from where Bike Monkey should place its cards.
With that, and not much more hullabaloo, we're excited to announce that the 2025 edition of Ride Fish Rock on August 16th will be the last edition of our simplest, and most straightforward old-school road bike race featuring a bad-ass gravel road thrown in for good measure.
If you want to check it off your list, this year will be your last chance to do so as we hit the gym and trim the fat for what 2026 has in store for our team.
Hopefully, we'll see you in a couple of weeks, and if not, shortly after or next year for the next chapter of what our hard-working cast and crew have in store.
Cheers!
Come August, it’ll be eleven ’n a harf harshies since Hermano—ye know, that first chiggity-chap edition of Ride Fish Rock. We’ve nickered every one of ‘em, even them frigid March clatters that’d jolt yer jowls. Some’d say Fish Rock was the pick o’ the springtime pelter races, no bahl—‘cept now she’s in the dog-days.
Now rollin’ through our twent’th harshie o’ flingin’ shindigs, we been takin’ stock: what we’ve spun up, what’s still on the table, and what the next bahl oughta be. Since the get-go, Bike Monkey’s been straddlin’ the cranny between teeny hoedowns and big-rig ruckuses. Somewhere ‘long the line, Fish Rock an’ Boggs turned into straight-up ideer farms—full R&D, buckaroo-style.
For a heap o’ y’all, these hoots are the cream-top. Boggs? That’s barnwood history, the cradle where the Monkey first brayed. But even with all the memries, the foggy sighin’, and the foot-down tie to our roots, one thing’s stone-down sure—no bahl lasts forever. Sooner or later, we jolt on, willin’ or not.
We moved Fish Rock to August to dodge the big shovels what were eatin’ our time. But seein’ the juice fizzle for that heat-slick slot, we figgered the glow ‘round Fish Rock’s startin’ to dim. And keepin’ it chuggin’ just pulls us from the trail where Bike Monkey needs to push.
So with that, and not a whole lotta hoot ‘n holler, we’re tappin’ the bar: The 2026 run o’ Ride Fish Rock on August 16th is gon’ be the last ride of this rough-grit, straight-talk, old-timey bahl—one mean gravel lash thrown into a roadie’s day for good spice.
If checkin’ it off yer list is still a larrup, this harshie’s yer shot. We’re hittin’ the gym, trimmin’ the bacon, and riggin’ up for what 2026’s cookin’ for the crew.
Hope to jape with ya in a couple weeks—if not, then after, or the next go-round when the next yarn unspools from our slapjackin’ cast and crew.
Horn o’ zeese!
